I'm back after a long long hiatus. yayyy. But, I still miss Europe. ;( Work's been busy the past week and i almost couldn't catch my breath at times. Colleagues would look at my scribbles-filled monthly schedule and ask me why does everyday seem so packed. Honestly, I have no idea why too. Well, let's see: staff meetings on Mondays, graduating class programs on Tuesdays, CCA trainings on Wednesdays and Fridays, and a British Council course every Thursday afternoon. I think that generally sums up the hectic life of a teacher. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my holidays touring around Europe (though not the whole of Europe cos of a lack of time.) I had to leave the first week aside for my Sec 4 class and my last week for the Staff General Meeting. On the whole, it was quite an eye-opener for me and amidst the sight-seeing and shopping, I was grappling with my Asian identity (or rather Singaporean identity). In certain areas like London and Barcelona, the sales people and customs officers were quite rude and I'm almost certain that they are being racist just because we are Asians/Chinese! And most Europeans cannot differentiate a Chinese from China and one from Singapore. They just lumped all of us into one term: Asians. OR they would come up with a statement like: But Singapore is in China, isn't it? How ignorant. Des says we should just laugh at their ignorance, instead of fuming in anger over the ridiculous association. Wise. I've learnt how to appreciate myself better and to stand firm on my own worth and rights even if someone places a doubt on it. Will upload pics soon. Stay tuned! |
